Blackjack Tips for Playing Smart
April 27, 2008 – 3:46 amThere are many things the beginner, intermediate or advanced players can do to improve their odds at the blackjack table. Below we provide a selection of blackjack tips that should help you prolong your time at the table:
- The most important blackjack tip: The objective of the blackjack is to beat the dealer. Too many times blackjack hints are written that claim that the goal of the game is to get close to 21.
- Is not possible to beat the game consistently. This is probably the second most important blackjack tip to remember - you won’t always win. Accept that losing is part of the game. This will improve your mindset as much as anything and will keep you focused on the game, keeping your skill level up.
- Look for a table whose minimum is no more than 5 percent of you total stash. When you choose a blackjack table, take into account rule variations that help the player such as the option of doubling down on any two cards, or the dealer having to stand on soft 17. Even if you do not fully understand them, such rule variations can work to your benefit.
- Start with the essentials. Because the dealer has to hit on any hand 16 or lower, you will never win with less than 17 unless the dealer busts. Take a hit on any hand lower that 17 when the dealer shows ace, K, Q, J, 10, 9, or 8, cards that are not probable to make the dealer bust. Stand on any hand higher than 11 when the dealer shows a 4,5, or 6, cards that will then make dealer to bust more than 40 percent of the time.
- Take insurance only when you have an intuitive feeling that the dealer has blackjack, or if you are card counting and know the cards remaining in the deck.
